That great big delivery truck burning up the miles in front of you on the motorway may not be delivering anything at all.
It might be on the way home. With nothing in it but air. In the freight game, this is called empty running. It’s always been bad for business and worse for the environment.
Empty running traditionally accounts for over 30% of all HGV miles across the UK road freight sector. This results in more than 3.5 to 5 billion unproductive, empty miles driven every single year. Unladen journeys generate over 4.7 to 5 million tonnes of avoidable CO2 emissions annually.
But there’s good news.
Five years ago, some clever people had a vision to make empty running a thing of the past by uniting shippers and hauliers on one intelligent digital platform that would identify available loads for their return trips.
Their idea is working. It’s called HaulageHub. And I’m delighted to say that Invo Fulfilment are their Haulier of the Month. Their partnerships and integrations have helped lower average empty running rates for participating networks toward 19%.
I love partnerships like this, where businesses with smart visions get together to be better together and for us it was a great practical example of our Value of Innovation in practice.
They’ve been kind enough to say that ‘Invo Fulfilment is a fantastic example of an ambitious transport operator embracing technology, focusing on service and continually looking for ways to operate smarter’.
If you’re one of our thousands of Invopak customers who rely on us to source and deliver your packaging products, you might not be aware of Invo Fulfilment.
After more than five decades concentrating solely on packaging, we decided five years ago – about the same time HaulageHub was getting going – that our world-class, digital systems, service-levels, warehouse facilities and delivery fleet could be used to store and deliver just about anything.
We call what we do at Invo Fulfilment: Straightforward Pallet Storage, Transport and 3PL (that’s Third Party Logistics).
It’s going great, I’m happy to say. And, with thanks to Haulage Hub, we’re solving real problems.
