Making people better. It’s a prescription for company health.
Coaching is our next big differentiator as a business.
Even more than big and brave infrastructure moves like manufacturing our own tinplate packaging and more than opening new fulfilment warehouses when others are half empty or being shut down.
Our people, not the products or services we supply, are our most important asset.
Once we realised that, it was easy to agree that ‘making people better’ will be our legacy. Does that sound a bit soft to you in these tough times? It shouldn’t. It’s hard as nails.
We seem to like writing books here. We are in the 12th version of our Value Handbook, we’ve done the public-facing version of this called The Book of Involvement (free to order here https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=Mtvwdd5Euk-GLYKTVVL85nrWeZVuk-dDpL4J4MzSAitUNjNZUUpKUTRXQlJPODE3RDBBRlcyS1JUTi4u&route=shorturl), and now we’ve produced our own Coaching Handbook.
Honestly, you’ll be thinking! How do they find the time?
The answer is, we didn’t think it could wait.
The world doesn’t hang around throwing challenges at us. So we can’t stop getting better at dealing with them. Each day is a school day.
I’m not actually completely happy with using the word ‘coaching’, because in a business context it has become not exactly a joke, but I’m sure you know what I mean…
Impactful coaching isn’t a nice little perk for employees. It’s not a cheeky couple of days out of the office. It’s definitely not just for the suits. It’s not (I kid you not) learning how to breath differently.
Here, it’s a commitment from all of us, to all of us, to never let up on making working hard pay all of us back.
It’s about shifting perspectives, unlocking potential. Red Brain vs Blue Brain thinking. Controlling our emotions in the face of massive wind-ups. Reminding ourselves: We have the answers. Stop. Think. Coach.
More on this to come. It’s important.
