1 Metre

What is this?

Your 1 Metre is what you instantly give off as a person, to a person, that initial impact and wow factor that lets people know you’re in the room.

Think of your 1 Metre like a ‘Ready brek’ glow, an aura, it’s what you emit; the shining body that surrounds your physical being.

Imagine you have a 1 Metre forcefield around you, a forcefield that instantly has a positive and lasting impact, and effect on others when they experience it. An impact that is so infectious it leads to a ripple effect on those who see, hear and feel it.

How does my 1 Metre impact others?

Your 1 Metre impacts people through a variety of things that you can physically and emotionally control; how you interact with someone, how you look, how you smell and how you sound.

This is because a 1 Metre is linked to at least 4 of the 5 basic human senses; touch, sight, hearing and smell. These senses will be triggered in others and have an instant and lasting impact on them.

The power of your 1 Metre is that it can change how others feel, think and act.

Think about the below examples; how they would make you feel differently in each situation?

Touch:
Receiving a firm handshake or a
hug vs a flimsy handshake or no hug.

Sight:

Being greeted with a smile vs being greeted with a frown.

Hearing:
Receiving a ‘thank you’ vs not
receiving a ‘thank you’.

Smell:
Breathing in a nice perfume or
aftershave vs the scent of body odour.

Things to consider when creating your 1 Metre: ways to give off good vibes:

1. Have a first date mindset; treat every day as though you’re going on a date with the person of your dreams.

2. Make an impact on arrival, use you’re 1 Metre to let people know you’re in the room; smile, engage and have open body language.

3. Pay attention to the energy your emitting; giving off good energy attracts good energy.

4. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones, it’s how you perceive situations and relate to them in order to affect others (see Growth Mindset examples).

5. Leave your worries at home, start afresh and live for the day.

6. Keep your posture open; face people, maintain eye contact, and ‘be tall’.

7. Stay in the moment; don’t be distracted, remain focused on the job or the person at hand.

8. Think about recent situations with others that have made you then feel good, how did that make you feel?
